Four Outfit Tips for 4th of July Celebrations

Looking for some fashionable ways to show your patriotism this 4th of July? Spark your own fireworks with these style tips:

Blue and White Maxi Dress

1. Pledge Allegiance to Patterns
Take a cue from our flag and flaunt stars and stripes (or my favorite, polka dots)! From color-blocked styles to classic sailor stripes to actual American-flag-inspired pieces, patterns can make your look pop!

Stars and Stripes

2. Spangle Yourself With Colorful Accessories
Shoes, belts, scarves, bags, and statement necklaces are an easy way to work red, white, and blue into your look.

Colorful Accessories

3. Play With Shades and Symbols
Red, white, and blue may be the textbook 4th of July colors, but why not expand the spectrum? Throw in some stars and/or stripes to complete the look. Turquoise and coral are just as festive, perfect for summer, and will stand out at any parade, cookout or beach celebration.

Colorful Shades

4. Keep It Cool With Basics
Classic blue jeans, crisp white cotton, flirty red dresses—these are just a few examples of basics you might already have that make a festive foundation for an Independence Day outfit.

Basic Jeans and Lace Top

Use the tips above to create your look. I’ve taken care of what you will wear so go ahead and focus on spending time with family and friends.

Style Update: Shimmer and Shine in Metallics

Spring is here and therefore time for a style update. Not everyone loves pastels so I have the perfect solution…metallics! With metallic hues, shimmering shades and glossy fabrics, this season’s staples will lend a luxurious touch to your everyday look.

I can count at least 15 outfits from just these 12 pieces. Now, that is what I call great bang for your buck. Each of the pieces individually can be easily paired with items you already have in your closet. Each of these items can be found on H&M’s website. I am so glad that they FINALLY made their fast fashion and home accessories available online. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the HOME collection then I strongly suggest that you consider it. My favorite purchases so far would have to be the pillow covers!

Are you a pastel girl, a metallic girl or a little bit of both? What are you going to grab from this collection?

How To Organize Your Shoe Collection

I was perusing Pinterest, looking for ideas on home decor when I came across so many cool ways to organize a shoe collection. I have a tendency to get all excited and start acting on my home improvement projects without really thinking them through. My husband is super sweet and just allows me to have my fun! Check out what I found when conducting my Pinterest “research.”

Put It On The Shelf

Instead of hiding your beautiful shoes behind closet doors, place them on shelves around your room—they are works of art, after all!

Styling Tip: Keep the shoe styles consistent on each shelf and space them evenly so they don’t appear cluttered.

In The Box

Storing your shoes in boxes will not only lead to a more organized closet but also allows your footwear to remain in topnotch condition.

Styling Tip: To maximize accessibility, take a photo of the pair of shoes and tape it to the front of the box.

In Case Of Fashion Emergency, Break Glass

If you are short on closet space, get creative! A glass cabinet can easily double as a shoe closet.

Styling Tip: To avoid overcrowding, only showcase seasonally-appropriate footwear and put the rest in storage.  I think you can find a great one at Ikea!

The Ladder Method

This unconventional display is great for showcasing statement heels and serves as a chic décor idea for a vintage-influenced bedroom.

Styling Tip: You can use a ladder bookcase which is typically larger and easy to find at Target! I like this one! You could get really gutsy and get two of them with a gorgeous floor mirror separating them.

Open Storage

I was personally inspired by, The Coveuter, after seeing this bookshelf with a hodgepodge of fun style essentials, including shoes, bags, jewelry, and fashion books.

Styling Tip: Use this idea to store more than shoes. In fact, put all of your BEST accessories and girly things out for display.

Do any of these ideas stand out to you? It is time for Spring cleaning and reorganizing. I plan on getting my shoe storage organized next week. I can’t wait to share the results.

PS- Guess what? Steve Madden has an extra 20% off SALE this weekend! Perfect time to use it after you organize your closet and determine what you need to round out your shoe wardrobe.

When you let go of what you think your life “should” be,” you can then focus on making your life what it “could” be. Stop focusing on what’s wrong with yourself and others, stop complaining about your job and replace those thoughts with at least one positive thing. In most cases, happiness can influence success. Be grateful, enjoy life, and let the good things that flow delight you. Let go of the need to be in control and embrace the positive, you may even begin to see other great things unfold!

What do you think “should” be in your life right now that isn’t? How has that “should” impacted your happiness?

Embrace the good in your life without the “shoulds,” “coulds” and “would haves.”

3 Ways to Wear A Faux Fur Vest

Like what you see? I hope so!
Follow me on Bloglovin’ to always stay up to date!

Happy Monday! It has been a while since I have guest posted on Karen’s blog so I am glad to be back. Karen recently touched on the faux fur trend in her “Style Tips” article, so I thought it would be the perfect time to discuss the faux fur vest.  Because a vest can be worn layered over (or under) anything, and adds an instant touch of glam to any outfit, the faux fur vest is a must have, winter wardrobe staple!

Faux fur vest are a closet staple for every woman, in my humble opinion. Wearing it with a skirt, tights, and booties is a favorite option for a night out on the town.

Back To Basics

Pair a faux fur vest with a collared shirt, colored skinnies, and flat riding boots for a cute, yet casual look.

Kasiprofessionaloutfitfauxfurvest Did you know that faux fur is perfect for the office? Instead of wearing a normal blazer over your work dress, switch it up by belting a faux fur vest over it instead.

If you do not own a faux fur vest then now is your chance. Check out my top picks:

As you read in my previous post, I am completing Lara Casey’s “Make It Happen” challenge. It is bringing up a lot of questions that I do not always immediately have the answer to. What is your dream right now? I do not know about you, but I have found that my biggest dreams came with a cost. They have taken a lot of effort, hard work and time. I moved forward although I did not know exactly what was ahead of me. My secret weapon has been my faith.  I believed that God would be with me no matter what happened. I lived, I learned and I even survived the missteps.

Whatever your dream may be, I encourage you to commit to it 100%. Alert those around you and remind yourself that this will take sacrifice. How will you find the time, the money or the resources that you need to get going?  Check out what is motivating me on my “Making IT Happen 2014″ board. It probably will not be an easy road to travel but it will be so worth it in the end. What are you doing right now to make at least one of you 2014 goals happen?

When it comes to a goal or dream that really matters to you, think outside of the box about resources that will help you along the way.

What excuse have you made for why you cannot have your dream? If you were to let go of that excuse, what would you have to do to make it happen? Are you serious enough about your dream to do that now?

Hello 2014!

Like what you see? I hope so!

Follow me on Bloglovin’ to always stay up to date!

Yesterday, I mentioned that I finally decided to join the rest of the world and enter 2014. Woo hoo! It is nice to step in to a new year. I am full of hope and expectation as to what lies in store. I was feeling kind of stuck the last few weeks and could not put my finger on a particular reason. Then I took the time to slow down and little epiphany after little epiphany started to come to me!

Take Note These cute little notebooks came from Target. They are perfect for getting everything out of my head on to paper.

I stumbled upon Lara Casey’s website and was immediately hooked.  Lara is a motivator that has the goal to encourage people to “Make Things Happen.” If you decide to take her challenge, expect to go through a journey before actually setting goals. I was able to take the time to determine what worked for and against me in 2013 which laid a roadmap for 2014. Some of the things I realized: 1) I spend a lot of time saying “yes” for the benefit of others even if it is not moving me to my greater purpose. 2) Some thing that were important to me for a season are now no longer important. That is okay. 3) I have learned to change perspective so that my expectations are not violated. Then, I came across the ultimate “NEEDS” list right in Lara’s shop:

Hello 2014! #NewYearResolution #Blogger #YourStylistKaren

Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me. One of the ways I plan on doing that is reading this daily. It has already helped me so much to stay in “learning mode” as I walk through the first few days of 2014. I am currently on Part 4 of 6 right now in the 2014 Goal Setting Series. I hope that you will consider joining me. Check out my Pinterest board which is suggested as a visual source of accountability for this project. If you make one, let me know by leaving a link in the comments so that I can check it out. PS- Check out SS Print Shop for more great prints to keep around as reminders of the BLESSED life you should be living!

This is my first post of 2014 and I am so happy to do it with some of my favorite blogger girls! We decided to take on the faux fur trend. I love how we took one common trend and made it our own.

I personally have about four pieces of faux fur in my closet but I decided to pull out this vest from The Limited to represent my look. I went all out and took on the winter white look. I hope you like it!
